From the Archive: When Sleeping
A drowsy drabble
Dogs keep their own time.
Poppy wakes before my morning alarm. I keep her waiting - not too long - and we start the day outside, to do her business.
Then, we turn back indoors. She’ll get a full walk later…
But just right now - in the grey time of winter, when wind howls ice around the house, and great men in faraway cities choose which terrors the year will bring - right now, we snuggle.
Poppy curls up in her fleecy basket. I tuck her into her blankets, and simply watch.
We need nothing more.
She is heaven. She is peace itself.
